LATEST: Actor GARY COLLINS has had his court date for drink-driving charges postponed - to allow him more time to complete his stint in rehab. The American TV star was arrested in Los Angeles in October (23Oct07) after crashing his black Ford Explorer into a blue Toyota while driving through Sherman Oaks. The collision caused Collins to lose control and career into oncoming traffic, where he smashed into two parked cars. Inmate medical care going up

MALONE -- Franklin County has paid nearly $320,000 for medical care for County Jail inmates this year, an increase of $150,000 from 2006.

Some was spent on an inmate who needed a pacemaker implanted, and another had a baby while incarcerated.

Several inmates have had hospital treatment for severe diabetes, while still others are having trouble as they recover from drug- and alcohol-abuse addictions.

But, no matter what the ailment or malady, once the doors slam behind someone housed at the Bare Hill Road facility, their medical problems become the county's responsibility, said Sheriff Jack Pelkey.

"Inmate health care is mandated," he said. "By law, we have to provide proper care."

Last year, the county spent $174,343 for prescriptions, hospital care, dental costs, eye-care expenses, a nurse and a physician.

New Drug/Alcohol Treatment Facility In Crookston

A hospital announced plans today for a new drug and alcohol treatment center; it will be one of the largest in northwestern Minnesota. The Sisters of St. Joseph Convent on the east side of Crookston has been vacant for three years. A group of private investors has now purchased it for nearly two million dollars and will lease it to Riverview for their Glenmore Treatment Facility. Bill Erickson says, "Glenmore has been a wonderful part of Riverview. We saw a need to expand services and an opportunity, now it is a reality." Riverview officials say they have simply out grown their current drug and alcohol treatment facility with 27 beds. This new facility will offer 52 beds, a dining room and plenty of space for conference rooms, exercise rooms and more.

Celebrity Rehab

There may soon be some star sightings in Hanover. A family with Hollywood connections is opening a drug and alcohol rehab center nestled in the Hanover hills.

Clarity Way is getting some help from some famous musicians, including Christopher Thorn, guitarist in the band "Blind Melon." Thorn's sister and brother-in-law designed the 11 bedroom luxurious rehab center with the hopes of attracting Hollywood type clients who need to get clean.

Among the amenities is a state of the art recording studio where musicians can continue to work during their stay.

"I know from being in the center of the craziness, being so hectic, I think if someone was struggling with addiction they would want to get away and look out the windows and see this beautiful landscape," said Thorn.

Owners say Hanover is a perfect place for the center because it's as far away from Hollywood as someone can get.

"It's a good place for folks to be able to come and work on their addiction and not have all the paparazzi tracking them down," said president Justin Daniels.

It costs between $20,000 and $30,000 for a 30 day stay at the facility on Iron Ridge Road.
