New rehab facility to offer posh amenities

Justin Daniels knows from experience the toils and stress that comes with tackling the demons of addiction.

That's why the recovering alcoholic and local businessman wanted to create a place that will make the transition back to a life of sobriety a bit easier.

Daniels' dream of such a place will come to be when Clarity Way Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facility, in Heidelberg Township outside Hanover, opens its doors early next year.

"The people who come here will receive more therapy here than anyone else would in a lifetime," Daniels said.

Daniels said the posh treatment center, with amenities like maid and concierge service, a personal trainer, and a gourmet chef, will focus on people who are accustomed to such everyday treatment.

Daniels, a West Manchester Township resident, envisions doctors, lawyers, business owners and members of the entertainment industry who need help finding it at Clarity Way.

Milnacipran Demonstrated Significant Improvement In Pain And The Core Symptoms Of Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Data Show

Total daily dosages of milnacipran 100 mg and 200 mg demonstrated statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in both pain and other core symptoms associated with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), according to Phase III data presented this week at the 2007 American College of Rheumatology meeting in Boston, MA. The therapeutic effects of milnacipran among responders in a six-month study were sustained for up to one year in a double-blind extension trial.

Although widespread chronic pain is the defining characteristic of FMS, it typically occurs as part of a broader spectrum of symptoms, including fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, and reduced physical function. Milnacipran is the first treatment studied for fibromyalgia whose effectiveness has been evaluated utilizing a composite responder approach which requires, on a patient-by- patient basis, concurrent improvements across multiple FMS domains.

Legislators to seek Homeland Security probe of spill

A House subcommittee grilled the federal and state commanders in charge of handling the oil spill in San Francisco Bay and, unhappy with the responses, announced Monday they would seek a new probe by the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security.

The subcommittee members, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, were particularly concerned when they heard that the National Transportation Safety Board investigation could take a year. It is imperative, they said, that problems with the emergency response be identified immediately so that solutions can be found before the next disaster.

"I wasn't satisfied with the answers or the path that we were on," Pelosi said after the three-hour hearing in the Presidio held by the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation.

Actress Lindsay Lohan arrives at the Cinema Palace in Venice Sept. 5, 2006. Lohan spent one hour and 24 minutes at Los ...

Recently rehabed starlet Lindsay Lohan spent 1 hour and 24 minutes at Los Angeles County's Lynwood Jail for a drunken driving and cocaine-possession conviction, said Los Angeles police as quoted by media reports Friday.

The actress became the latest celebrity to serve less than a day for a drunken driving offense, following the steps of pregnant actress Nicole Richie and socialite Paris Hilton.

Lohan, 21, presented herself at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the jail. She was searched, fingerprinted and placed in a holding cell in the inmate reception area. The troubled girl was released at 11:54 a.m.

"She was cooperative," said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Asked if the "Mean Girls" star received any special treatment, the spokesman said it was not the case.

‘Beowulf’ is awesome, but not for kids

OF ALL THE REQUIRED reading in high school and college, the Old English tale of Beowulf and Grendel was my absolute least favorite. I don't consider myself a literary curmudgeon, but this yarn put me to sleep. And now, 15 years removed from my last high school English class, director Robert Zemeckis ("Cast Away") is looking to lure you and me to the theater to watch his Hollywoodized version that will have many an English teacher crying in their popcorn. Now is probably a good time to offer a warning to parents: Simply put, this is not a cartoon. This isn't "Shrek." Yes, "Beowulf" does employ motion capture and CGI, but there are no zany hijinx or talking animals in this film. Let's just say there are enough boobs and butts in this film, as well as violence and gore, that it would certainly be rated R if it wasn't for the "animation." Don't take the kids to this one."Beowulf" is set in the land of Heorot (according to the film, this is in Denmark), where King Hrothgar (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife, Queen Wealtheow (Robin Wright Penn), are only a handful of survivors from an attack by the monster Grendel (Crispin Glover) on the king's newly opened mead hall.

PBC commissioners agree to give financial help to rehab center

In an about-face, Palm Beach County commissioners agreed Tuesday to extend financial help to a drug and alcohol rehab center that's looking to expand in south county - something commissioners refused to do a little more than a month ago.

Caron Foundation of Florida, a nonprofit rehab center that caters to the wealthy, now will be able to secure $9.5 million in tax-exempt bonds courtesy of the county. The money will be used to expand its operations in Delray Beach.

Commissioners reversed course and agreed to the request at their Solid Waste Authority meeting without discussion or debate. The vote was 4-0, with Commissioners Mary McCarty, Burt Aaronson and Jess Santamaria absent.
